Can I order my own tests?

No. In keeping with the Health Services (Pathological Laboratories) Regulations we shall conduct laboratory test “only when requested to do so by a medical or dental practitioner” therefore a patient cannot order their own tests.

Do you offer home phlebotomy service?

Home phlebotomy service can be facilities for patients who are unable to visit one of our Patient Service Centres. Please contact the laboratory from price and booking. 

How do I know if I qualify for a discount?

Barbados Reference Laboratory offers a 10% discount on selected tests to the following groups:

  • BARP Members
  • Senior Citizens (65 years & Older) 
  • Children 16 years & Under 
  • Barbados Union of Teachers 
  • UWI Alumni 

Please note that discounts only apply to specimen taken at Barbados Reference Laboratory on presentation of valid form of identification. 

What forms of payment do you accept?

We are accept cash, credit cards, Barbados bank issued debit cards, international bank draft and cheques

How long does it take to get my test results?

Turnaround time varies and could take a few hours to a few weeks, based on the test. Please ask the receptionist at our Patient Service Centres.

How long do I have to go without eating for a fasting test?

The period of fasting is between 8 and 12 hours. 

Should I fast before coming in for a blood test?

You are not required to fast unless you are doing a fasting test or requested to do so by your doctor

What insurance plans do you accept?

Barbados Reference Laboratory does not assign benefits; however, a 10% discount is offered to Barbados Sagicor and Guardian card holders on presentation of appropriate identification when the specimen is taken at the laboratory. Insurance claim forms are completed for all patients as requested. 

Are appointments required to get lab work done?

Appointments are not required for routine laboratory investigations; however, appointments are required for DNA testing and Para-medicals.
